Spectrum 011B Formula Ford Driver Profile Car Specifications Gallery

Originally built in Australia by Borland racing developments we have owned and run our Spectrum 011 for three years. The car has had extensive development work carried out on it by us during the winters to improve its performance for racing in the UK.

The developments have mainly centred on suspension settings for wet races (not such a problem in Australia!) and wind tunnel testing. Borland had not been able to test the car in a wind tunnel and the data we have recorded has allowed us to develop a new engine cover and air intake system which has meant more power and an even more slippery aerodynamic profile.

As the 02 Spectrum was essentially 2 years behind its championship winning sibling there were many areas that could be further developed on the car. A lot of data had been collected from the 01 car that we were able to examine and adapt to our needs.

A considerable amount of this was setup data which gave us a good point to start from, although we were well aware that this data was optimised towards the driver of the 01 car Ben Norton. With the first few tests used as more of an opportunity to familiarise our driver, Ollie White, and ourselves with the 02 car the development only truly began as the season got underway.

The Spectrums race package overall is quite complete, many chassis specific items such as setup bars, steering rack stops and specialised tools have already been produced for the 01 car so the 02 car benefits from these previous developments. Most components made for the 02 car surround driver customisation, every driver has different requirements so it is important to 'personalise' the car to suit them.
